Karnataka govt asks Toyota motors union to end strike

Bengaluru, Nov 17 (UNI) The Karnataka government on Tuesday directed Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) management to lift the lockout and asked workers to withdraw their agitation with immediate effect.
The decision was the outcome of talks held by Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan with the TKM management and the union members. Minister for Labour Shivram Hebbar, Magadi MLA Manjunath and other senior officials of the government were present during the talks.
The government has taken the decision under Section 10(3) of the Industrial Disputes Act, and an official order to this effect will be issued, the Deputy Chief Minister's office said in a statement.
He advised both sides to resolve all issues through discussions.
TKM had declared a lockout at its two plants in Bidadi, about 40 km from here, on November 10 following workers union members resorting to a sit-in strike at the factory premises to protest against the suspension of a worker.
On Friday, the company suspended 39 union members for involvement in acts of misconduct and in line with the company's disciplinary rules.
The Deputy Chief Minister said as the whole world was looking at India as an alternative to China, and countries like Japan, South Korea and Taiwan were eager to set shop in the State, it is the duty to maintain a conducive atmosphere without giving room for strike and lockout.
