PATIALA: The police in the Patiala district of Punjab have booked five persons in a suicide case under various sections of the IPC, including abetment to suicide, after more than a month. The family of the deceased had to run from pillar to post to get the case registered in Patiala as the suicide took place in Haryana.
The police have identified the deceased as Mahinder Kumar who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the canal in Haryana in September this year. The case was registered on the complaint on Mahinder’s daughter Geeta Rani of Patiala who told the police that before committing suicide his father Mahinder had called his neighbour and informed that he was committing suicide as his business partners had cheated him thus making him suffer huge losses.
“My father left on his jeep to an unknown place on September 27 and committed suicide by jumping into the canal. The very next day his body was recovered from Haryana but the police there refused to register any case and asked us to visit Patiala police as the accused were from Patiala. After running from pillar to post the police in Patiala registered our case against the accused who also have some political support and are influential persons," said complainant Geeta who along with her husband and daughter was staying at Mahinder’s house when the incident took place.
The police, however, said that the case was registered in Patiala only after taking legal advice from DA Legal in the case as the suicide took place in Haryana where the police had already marked inquiry after registering a case under 174 of the CrPC.
The accused have been identified as Rashpal, Satnam, Rajiv, Ramesh and Maninder of Patiala, by the police.
“We have registered the case under IPC sections after taking advice from DA Legal and the accused will be nabbed soon,” said Station House Officer Lahouri Gate police station.
