A truck going at a high speed near Tawa Kathi village under Chopna station, about 50 km from the district headquarters, fell uncontrollably and fell down from the bridge. In the accident, six people, including five laborers, died on the spot.
Chopna's police station in-charge Rahul Raghuvanshi said that a truck full of saris fell down on Monday night and Tuesday, breaking the railing from the bridge over the Tawa river. Six people died on the spot in the accident, including the truck driver and five laborers. In the river where the truck fell, there was very little water. He said that on receiving the information, the Chopna police reached the spot and with the help of a crane, took out the six bodies by separating the bars placed in the truck.
Raghuvanshi said the deceased have been identified as Rikesh (25), Bablu Bhalavi (24), Dilip (26), Sanju Batke (40), Munna Salam (24), and truck driver Manohar Sahu (38). He said that these laborers were residents of Pipri village, while the truck belongs to Multai.
Raghuvanshi said that the bodies have been sent to Ghodadongri Hospital for postmortem. He said that a case has been registered in this regard at Chopna police station and the investigation is on.
