KANPUR: In an incident that sent shock waves, two sisters, aged 8 and 11, were killed and their eyes gouged out by unidentified assailants at Chichni village under Asothar police station in Fatehpur district.
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to mortuary before launching investigation.
The girls, identified as Kiran (11) and Shubhi Devi (8), daughters of Dilip of Chichni village, had gone to pluck vegetables from a nearby farm on Monday afternoon, police said.
“The sisters had gone to pluck vegetables from nearby farms on Monday afternoon when they went missing. Their parents launched a search in vain. Later, they were found dead near a pond on the outskirts of the village,” said station house officer Asothar Ranjit Bahadur Singh.
“We are questioning the girls’ family to find out if they had enmity with anyone,” Singh added.
The incident came to light on Monday evening when villagers saw their bodies and informed their parents who alerted local police.
“The bodies were lying near a pond. Their legs were tied. We don’t have any enmity with anyone in the village. Why would anyone kill my daughters and that too in such a gruesome manner,” said Dilip.
Police registered an FIR under Section 302 of IPC against unidentified persons on the complaint of the girls’ parents.
A forensic team reached the spot and collected evidence. The bodies were then dispatched to mortuary and investigations are on.
