KANPUR: A 25-year-old man was killed in a clash between two groups in Wajidpur area of Chakeri in Kanpur on late Sunday night.
Senior police officers including superintendent of police (East) Rajkumar Agarwal and circle officer Cantt Satyajeet Gupta, are camping in the area and monitoring the situation.
A large number of personnel from Civil Police and PAC were deployed to check further clash and restore normalcy.
SP east Rajkumar Agarwal confirmed the death of one Pintu Nishad, a footwear artisan and a resident of Wajidpur.
Agarwal said one Amaan of Wajidpur, was passing by a Paan shop, when few drops of water probably splurged from an empty pouch of water lying on the road soiled his clothes.
Following this, he had an argument with a group of men standing at the Paan shop, but the situation was brought under control when a few elderly people from the neighbourhood intervened, police said.
However, few minutes later, Amaan accompanied by nearly a dozen women, armed with lathis and bricks, attacked one Pintu apparently belonging to the same group standing near the Paan shop. The family members and neighbours of Pintu also retaliated, police added.
"Pintu, however, sustained injuries in the clash. He was rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. A complaint has been lodged under relevant sections of IPC with us and we will take strict action against the accused, who are on run. Raids are under way to make their arrest possible," said SP East further.
