Pakistan’s textile hub Faisalabad is now witnessing a financial boom as 50,000 power looms there have started operations and another 30,000 such units are expected to start functioning soon following the government’s recent announcement of supplying electricity to the industrial sector at reduced rates. The city is receiving a large number of export orders.
Prime Minister Imran Khan too, in a recent tweet, shared a television news report about the increased economic activity in Faisalabad and the resultant shortage of 0.2 million labourers required to meet the high demand of orders in the textile sector.
Several textile factories and power looms in the city closed due to a power crisis earlier. However, during the pandemic, textile-related orders from various countries were diverted to Pakistan, according to a news agency report.
Bloomberg, in its recent report ‘Opening early helped Pakistan boost exports during pandemic’, also mentioned a surge in Pakistan’s textile exports.
