BHUBANESWAR: In a major relief to the state as well as its citizens,
Odisha logged a sharp decline in
Covid-19 cases with 753
fresh cases being reported in the past 24 hours. The total number of
infections in the state rose to 3,08,659 on Sunday.
Apart from the fresh cases, 17 people succumbed to the disease on Sunday, taking the death toll to 1,527.
“It seems we are on the right track as the Covid graph is going as predicted. It is indeed a matter of satisfaction that during the festive season in the past month there has not been any major surge in cases. If we can successfully pass the second wave of the virus, which is likely between December 15 and January 15, we can manage the spread,” said Dr Jayant Panda, technical spokesperson of the health and family welfare department.
However, doctors advised that it was important to follow the Covid norms like sanitising, wearing a
mask and
social distancing.
“There is no chance of any complacency even though the Covid cases are declining. It is being noticed that people are thronging markets and street food stalls in hordes. They need to be careful,” Panda added.
The Covid cases fell sharply on Sunday as it has gone down to 753 from 902 on Saturday. The last time the state reported a single-day spike of 736 was on July 19. It started crossing the 1000-mark on a daily basis from July.
Of the fresh cases, 434 were from quarantine and 319 were local cases. Not even a single district reported more than 100 Covid cases in the past 24 hours. Sundargarh recorded 75 cases, the highest number, followed by Khurda (74).
Among the deaths, four each were reported from Bhubaneswar and Sundargarh, and three each from Sambalpur and Bargarh. The three others were reported from Kalahandi, Dhenkanal and Boudh districts, said the health and family welfare department. On Sunday, as many as 1,346 Covid
patients recovered.
