GUWAHATI: Congress served a notice on influential Koch-Rajbongshi leader and the party general secretary Biswajit Ray on Sunday for sharing the stage with BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma during an election campaign.
“It has come to the notice of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee that you have shared stage with Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, minister, Assam, and BJP state president, Ranjeet Kumar Das on 13 Nov, 2020, in an election meeting at Salakati, Kokrajhar. Your such acts are deemed as violation of the party discipline. As such, you are hereby asked to show cause why disciplinary action shall not be taken against you for violating party discipline and your reply must reach by the undersigned within 3 days (18-11-2020),” read the notice by APCC general secretary Ranjan Bora.
Ray, who was president of All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (Akrsu) from 2001-16 and is now the general secretary of Koch Rajbongshi Jatiya Mahasabha, said, “I went to meet the minister (Himanta) to raise the issues of the Koch Rajbongshi community,” Ray said, adding, “There was no political discussion. I am with Congress.”
