The teaching and non-teaching staff of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) held a protest candle march against the “indifferent attitude of the authorities of the PAU towards genuine demands of employees”.

The candle march began from Sukhdev Singh Bhawan of the university and moved towards the residence of the Vice-Chancellor (VC). However, the security staff stopped the protesters from reaching the VC’s house by putting up barricades.

The PAU Employees’ Union, PAU Teachers’ Association and PAU Class IV Workers’ Union have been protesting against the authorities of the university since October 13.

Baldev Singh Walia, president of the PAU Employees’ Union, said if their demands were not met soon, they would intensify the protest and would not hesitate before locking the Thapar Hall building next week. —TNS
