Thane FDA cracks down on establishments violating FDA regulations

Thane/Palghar, Nov 15 (UNI) In a major crackdown on establishments producing and storing food items in the two districts in last couple of days, the officials of Food and Drug Administration of the Konkan Division have closed operations of some of them and seized goods collectively worth Rs 41.61 lakh as well as destroyed some which were not fit for human consumption.

These establishments were found to be allegedly violating the FDA regulations and indulging in objectionable acts of packing, storing and distribution of food items, oil and other items, the FDA officials said on Sunday.
In a raid on S K Enterprises in Haloli of Palghar, the FDA officials found that the establishment did not have a proper lab for testing cooking oil and it made use of the used tins for packing the oil. From there, oil worth Rs 8,16,749 was seized.
In another raid at Mangalmurti Foods in Bhiwandi town of Thane, the officials found that the establishment dealt in fat spread, which was being sold without Agmark certification. Stock worth Rs 1.12 lakh was seized from there.
In one more raid on Galaxy Enterprises at Kalher in Bhiwandi, oil worth Rs 4,47,119 was seized, as they did not have a certified lab and the oil that was packed was sub-standard and therefore, not fit for human consumption.
In another raid on N M Oil Enterprises at Pimpri near Mumbra town of Thane, stock of different types of cooking oil, worth Rs 26.85 lakh was seized. This stock was also sub-standard and the company also did not have a certified lab for testing.
In yet another raid on the Bikks Bikaner India Pvt Ltd at Nerul in Navi Mumbai, several flaws were detected in their products. Also, they were carrying out the business in unhygienic conditions and the premises were allegedly not following general requirements of schedule 4 part 2 of licensing, officials said.
In one more raid at the Acchad toll plaza, the officials seized stock of mawa, sweet mawa and buffalo milk collectively worth Rs 3,50,610 and also of food items worth Rs 15,39,450, which was allegedly being transported in the non-refrigerated van and hence unfit for human consumption which was destroyed with the help of the Vasai-Virar civic officials.
All these establishments have been given the notice of stop operations for alleged violation of the regulations of the FDA and also for absence of well-equipped lab or a technical person to supervise the works as well as absence of BIS grade tins for packaging of edible oils, sources added.
