Bomb Squad gives Dromana Beach all-clear after explosives equipment found near bathing box

A section of Dromana Beach on the Mornington Peninsula that was closed off this afternoon after explosives equipment was found near a bathing box has been given the all-clear by the Bomb Squad.

A Victoria Police spokesman said a family had found some detonators – devices used to trigger explosives – near a bathing box just after 1pm on Sunday afternoon, which led part of the foreshore being cordoned off while crews investigated.

Following a scan of the area, the Bomb Squad gave the area the all-clear, and beachgoers have since returned to the area.

Upon finding the equipment buried in the sand, the family immediately handed it in at Rosebud police station, which was also cordoned off as a precaution until the bomb squad gives the all-clear.
