New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday paid homage to tribal leader Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, saying he was a true messiah of the poor, who struggled throughout his life for the welfare of the exploited and deprived.
Stating that his contribution to freedom movement and social harmony will always inspire people, Mr Modi tweeted, "He was the true messiah of the poor who struggled throughout his life for the welfare of the exploited and deprived."
Mr Javadekar in his tweet said, "Salutations to Birsa Munda Ji on his birth anniversary. He is a symbol of tribal power."
Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda had led a tribal uprising against British rule in Jharkhand region. He died in British custody at just 25 years of age.
