Parliamentarians pay tributes to Nehru on birth anniversary

New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and several current and former MPs on Saturday paid floral tributes at the portrait of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at the Central Hall of Parliament House.

Today, marks the 131st birth anniversary of the Pandit Nehru. He was born in 1889 and his birthday is also celebrated as Children's Day.

A booklet containing the profile of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries.

The Secretary-General of Lok Sabha Snehlata Shrivastava and Secretary Lok Sabha Secretariat Utpal Kumar Singh also paid floral tributes.

Notably, Nehru's portrait was unveiled by the then President Dr S Radhakrishnan, in the Central Hall of Parliament House on May 5, 1966.
