MUMBAI: The Narcotics Control Bureau on Friday arrested an Australian architect, Paul Bartel, on charges of procurement and consumption of contraband. While officials did not find any contraband in Bartel's Santacruz flat, they claimed to have come across his WhatsApp chats allegedly discussing drugs.
"We have found electronic evidence and his links with Agisilaos Demetriades, a South African national arrested last week," said Sameer Wankhede, NCB zonal director.
Bartel, employed with an international infrastructure firm, is the 25th accused arrested in the drugs probe and has been remanded in 14 days' judicial custody. Bartel is close friends with Agisilous, whose sister Gabriella Demetriades is actor Arjun Rampal's partner and was also questioned by the NCB.
