Government agencies conducted drives against use and selling of firecrackers in the capital on Friday, imposing fines, seizing crackers and they would also stay on alert today and till the orders remain imposing a ban on the use and sale of crackers.
CPCB teams are also deployed across the northern region keeping a tab on the pollution sources and implementing of the pollution control measures towards keeping the same under control.
The low minimum temperature recorded at 9.7 degrees C, along with high relative humidity pegging at 93 per cent this morning also prevented the dispersion of particulate matter form the air making it dense.
Fog, mist in the morning further added to making the air dense.
The situation may get better on Sunday as the weather man has forecast generally cloudy sky with light rain , which can help clear the particulate matter form the air and improve the air quality to some extent.
