PATNA: The Vaishali police on Friday arrested a man on charges of trying to dupe newly-elected BJP MLA Awadesh Singh by posing as a PMO staff and promising to ensure ministerial berth for the legislator in the next NDA government in the state. Singh had won assembly election from Hajipur constituency in Vaishali district.
SHO of Town police station SHO Subodh Kumar said the arrested person was identified as Mohd Harun Rashid (50). “Singh’s aide Rajesh Kumar Raju had lodged an FIR against Rashid, alleging that he had received multiple calls from Rashid,” he said.
Raju told TOI over phone that he had received the first call around 6pm on Thursday and the caller had expressed his desire to meet the MLA. “He made at least four more calls till 11am on Friday and then reached the MLA’s office. Suspecting foul play, we informed police,” Raju added.
