UP celebrates Diwali with great enthusiasm; no firecracker this time

Lucknow, Nov 14 (UNI) The festival of lights, Diwali is being celebrated across Uttar Pradesh with enthusiasm and religious fervour on Saturday, amid the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival is celebrated in the traditional way, with diyas and lamps lighting up cities and towns, fairs and festivities, and worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha.

This was the first festival after Holi, which was celebrated with less restrictions due to Covid-19 in the state.

This time Covid restrictions along with increase in pollution, government has totally banned fire crackers in 13 districts including the state capital while in other places the government has just allowed green crackers that too for just 2 hours between 2000 to 2200 hrs.

Almost every house of the state has been decorated with colourful lights while children and elders wore new clothes to celebrate the occasion.

Diwali is celebrated in honor of Lord Ram returning to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile on the orders of King Dashrath, his father.

A big Deepotsava function was organised in Ayodhya on Friday to showcase the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya when over 6 lakh earthen diyas were lit on the banks of river Saryu.

This year UP government has made elaborate arrangement for supply of 24 hours power in the entire state during the festival.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with other political leaders and state ministers have greeted the people on the occasion.

Chief Minister visited his native village at Gorakhpur, where he celebrated Diwali with the people of Vantangiyas tribes.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was in Saifai, his home village for the festival along with his family members.

UP police has also made elaborate security at the market places and other sensitive areas to maintain law and order.
