MUMBAI: The railways on Friday gave its approval for teaching and non-teaching staff of schools to travel on suburban local trains with immediate effect.
Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said, "The Maharashtra government had allowed teachers and non-teaching staff to travel. We have approved their request." Those taking locals will have to produce valid identity cards for entry at stations.
The state's unlock guidelines issued on October 14 said 50% of teaching and non-teaching staff can be called to schools at a time for online teaching, tele-counselling and related work in areas outside containment zones. The government has also permitted schools to reopen for classes IX to XII from November 23.
