In order to spread awareness on celebrating cracker-free Diwali, volunteers of Initiators of Change and Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Ludhiana, formed a human chain where over 50 youngsters took part by holding placards and banners on major roundabouts starting from Jagraon Bridge, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Bhai Wala Chowk and Aarti Chowk.
They gave the message of a cracker-free Diwali and to invest money on buying books and planting tress to save the future generations.
Talking about the campaign, Rana Inderjit Singh, chairman, Gurmat Gian Missionary College, said, “We have been doing the activity for over four years now. We will keep doing it until our city becomes a cracker-free city on not only Diwali but all major festivals.”
Mithil Goyal, vice president, Initiators of Change, Ludhiana, said, “Our intention is to tell people that it’s high time we stop wasting money on something that spoils the environment and causes damage to our body. We need to invest in our future and our society through books and plants.”
