Madhya Pradesh High Court refuses to quash the case against producer Ekta Kapoor over objectionable content

The Madhya Pradesh High Court bench in Indore has dismissed a petition of TV producer Ekta Kapoor, quashing a case registered against showcasing obscenity in one of her web series. Justice Shailendra Shukla, in its verdict, observed that the facts of the case were not such that the court might exercise its extraordinary powers under Section 482 in respect of sections 67 and 67-A of the Information Technology (IT) Act and 294 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). For the unversed, an FIR was registered against Kapoor following a complaint alleging that the web series, aired on her OTT platform, not only spreads obscenity but also hurts religious feelings.
