New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the demand for Ayurvedic products has increased rapidly during the Corona period all over the world and exports of Indian Ayurvedic products have increased nearly one-and-a-half times in September this year compared to the previous year.
Dedicating the Ayurveda institutes - Ayurveda Teaching and Research Institute (ITRA) of Jamnagar in Gujarat and National Ayurveda Institute (NIA) of Jaipur -- to the nation on the occasion of the fifth Ayurveda Day, he said "today on one hand, India is testing the vaccine and on the other hand, to fight Covid, the Ayurvedic research is also increasing international cooperation rapidly. Research is currently underway in more than 100 places."
Ayurveda was the heritage of India, in whose expansion the wellbeing of the whole humanity was covered, he added.
"It is a matter of pride that the World Health Organisation has chosen India to set up the Global Centre for Traditional Medicine. Now India will have to work in this direction for the world. I express my heartfelt gratitude to WHO and its Director General for giving this great responsibility to India," he told the audience there.
He said when there was no effective way to combat Covid-19, then immunity boosters like turmeric, decoction, milk etc found at home in India came handy. "If our country with such a large population is in a stable condition today, then this tradition of ours has a huge contribution," he said.
On the occasion, he prayed to Lord Dhanvantari to bless the whole world, including India, with healing.
In his address, the Prime Minister said 21st century India no longer thinks in pieces but in a holistic way.
Mr Modi referred to two important commissions that had been set up during the monsoon session of Parliament this year. First, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, and secondly, the National Commission for Homeopathy. The new national education policy encourages integration approach to medical education in India, he said.
Speaking on the All India Ayurvedic Institute, set up three years ago, he said "I am confident that not only Ayush but our whole system of health will witness a big change through our common efforts. In the country, our ancient medical knowledge is now being combined with the information received from the modern science of the 21st century, new research is being done."
