Don’t mind firecrackers being banned in many cities when we have Punjabi singers like Aatish igniting it all with their music! Aatish’s new song, Damn Serious, was released last week. As goes the Taare Wala Munda tag with his name, the singer says, “It was heartbreaking not to be known by name but your song! But then, I convinced myself that the song is also mine at the end of the day. Even Jassie Gill was once known as Lancer Wala Munda after his hit song, Lancer. But, look at him now.”

This five-song-old singer’s career took a hit because of the pandemic. He says, “Things were starting to pick up, as I had so many songs to record and shoot, but the lockdown slowed down the process. It was depressing, but music is the solution to everything that I go through. Sufi music holds a special place in my heart.” His song, Dil Di Changi, written by Nirmaan, which released during the lockdown was well-appreciated, but,of course, bore the brunt of too much content for the viewers. As they say, being a good singer is not enough… Timing and promotion of the song matters too.

Work is worship

Aatish’s latest release, Damn Serious, for which the music has been given by Jaymeet and lyrics are by Navjeet, caught his attention from the very beginning. The shooting for the song began post the lockdown while the audio was locked a year ago. Ask him if he is serious for any girl and he quips, “I am damn serious about my career. I am single. This decision is for my parents to probably take later.”

Having spent quality time with his family during the lockdown in Mahilpur, his hometown near Hoshiarpur, Aatish got back to playing his father’s harmonium, which is 30 years old. “While everybody turned chef during the lockdown, I used to enjoy cooking much before that. I also write shayari and because I am a tea-lover, wrote one on chai!” he adds.

Had he got a chance to spend time with someone from the Punjabi music industry, he would happily choose G Khan over others. Among the new ones, he is in love with the song Waalian by Harnoor.

Creative satisfaction

About creating more content, he says, “Amusic company will always look at the commercial angle for any song they put their money on, but an artiste will always look for creative satisfaction at the end of the day.”

As for being addicted to social media, Aatish is glad that he is not a victim of this lifestyle problem of the millennials, “I enjoy travelling more than documenting my memories on social media. While I had an account on TikTok, I seldom used it for the purpose of entertainment, but mostly promotedmy fellow singer’s work or mine on that platform.”

This doesn’t mean Aatish is camera shy; he says, “Social media is different, but when it comes to performing, I was never nervous — be it singing ordancing.”
