Why water and hygiene are non-negotiable for a healthier tomorrow?

The experiences of the past year have reminded us of the importance of hygiene, not just as a personal habit, but as a public priority as well. It has shown the fragility of our ecosystem, and reiterated how a sustainable future must begin with sustainable water resources, unconditional access to which is a prerequisite for the health of our communities and our nation.

Though this new consciousness has inspired efforts by administrators and individuals to initiate water conservation and hygiene movements, the task of building a cleaner and healthier future requires a behavioural change within each one of us. It requires an action plan that can be devolved to the responsibilities of an individual, and an aim that every citizen in this country can pledge their allegiance to, in words and in action.

This objective lies at the heart of Mission Paani, an initiative by News 18 and Harpic India, that has grown into a national platform to combine efforts towards the goals of better hygiene and water conservation. As a hub of ideas, it has helped disseminate best practices around the country, and become a unifying force between those who are leading the charge, and empowered individuals who want to contribute to the mission.

Because water conservation and hygiene has been a concern for Central and State administrations for a long time, Mission Paani seamlessly builds on existing governmental initiatives, forging a symbiotic relationship that amplifies the communication and helps us move towards the overarching goal of ensuring health and access to ample clean water for every Indian.
