Tripura CM triggers another controversy commenting on Supreme Court

Tripura CM triggers another controversy commenting on Supreme Court

Agartala, Nov 13 (UNI) Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee reacted sharply over Chief

Minister Biplab Kumar Deb's comment on Indian judiciary while addressing the newly

appointed Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers on Thursday.

The Congress President Pijush Kanti Biswas on Friday alleged, CM had undermined the

status of Chief Justice of India when commented, “The Supreme Court of India has got a

large number of Chief Justices since Independence but Justice Ranjan Gogoi has occupied

a special place for a judgement in the history of Supreme Court.”

Biswas, a renowned lawyer of Northeast sought the attention of Supreme Court stating that

such statement from a chief minister amounts to an utter disrespect to all the Chief Justices

of the country who had served till the judgment of Ram temple.

He questioned the jurisdiction of chief minister and asked how can a chief minister compare

the Chief Justice referring to a particular judgment, which is also showing disregard to Justice

Gogoi and creating confusion in public mind.

“After Ram temple judgement, Justice Gogoi was awarded to Rajyasabha by BJP and

Congress party had raised the question at the beginning. With the statement of Biplab Deb

it is clear that how BJP influences judiciary and we want response from the apex court,”

Biswas stated.

A day before Chief Minister made another blunder, which embarrassed state BJP after

students of Korbok in Gomati district requested him to appoint a teacher for Political

Science. Deb told the students, “For teaching Political Science doesn’t require a separate

teacher, the teachers of history and geography are well enough.”

In two and half years of tenure Biplab Deb has made several such comments that triggered controversy across the globe and put BJP in trouble.

Earlier, he said Sikhs and Jaths are known to be industrious but less intelligent, when ducks

swim in water, the oxygen level automatically increases in the water body, internet was used

during Mahabharata era, only civil engineers suited for civil services, Diana Hayden not

worthy of Miss World crown and keep a cow or open a paan shop, instead of running after

govt jobs.
