Griquas captain George Whitehead has been withdrawn from Friday's Super Rugby Unlocked match against the Sharks in Kimberley after breaking his hand in training.

Griquas announced that the incident occurred during Thursday's captain's run.

Whitehead's spot at flyhalf will be taken by Tinus de Beer, with scrumhalf Zak Burger taking the captain's armband.

Burger was also the captain in last weekend's 39-6 home loss to the Stormers as Whitehead played off the bench.

With De Beer again moving into the starting XV, Ashlon Davids will get a spot on the bench.

Kick-off is at 19:00 on Friday.
