Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami got bail from the Supreme Court eight days after his arrest. Arnab Goswami then withdrew his bail plea from the sessions court of Alibag in Raigad district on Thursday for allegedly abetting an interior designer for suicide.

The editor-in-chief of Republic TV was arrested on November 4. He was released from Taloja Jail after the Supreme Court granted interim bail on Wednesday. Arnab was jailed in judicial custody. The court also granted interim bail to two other accused in the case.

Goswami filed a regular bail petition before the sessions court in Alibaug on Monday. The case of alleged abetment to suicide is registered in Alibaug itself. The Bombay High Court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Arnab. He then moved the Supreme Court for relief. Goswami's lawyer Gaurav Parkar said, "We have withdrawn the bail plea from the sessions court."

Hearing on 23rd of sending police custody

However, on Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge RG Maletsheti adjourned the hearing on the revision petition filed by the Alibag police till November 23. The police challenged the local magistrate's order refusing to send Goswami and other accused to police custody and sending the accused to judicial custody.

The sessions court will also hear regular bail petitions filed on November 23 by two other accused in the case, Feroz Sheikh and Nitish Sarada. The lawyers for the accused told the sessions court that the trio had already got interim bail, so the revision petition is meaningless. The prosecution said that the court can still issue the order on the review petition.

In its petition, the police have requested the sessions court to send the three accused to police custody for questioning.

Hearing on Arnab's interim bail petition postponed

Even though Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the case of abetment to suicide, he is still under arrest for another case of alleged assault on a female policeman. Hearing on the interim bail petition filed by Arnab has been postponed to avoid arrest in this case. The sessions court of Mumbai will hear the petition on 23 November.

Arnab and his wife Samyabrata Ray Goswami on Wednesday filed an anticipatory bail in the case in Mumbai's sessions court. An FIR has been registered against Arnab and his wife for allegedly raping a woman policeman.

Arnab's lawyer Shyam Kalyankar said that the interim bail plea was to be heard on Thursday, which was postponed to 23 November. We are awaiting a copy of the Supreme Court's Wednesday order. The Supreme Court granted bail to Arnab on Wednesday in the suicide case of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother. On November 4, Arnab was arrested by the Mumbai Police.
