MUMBAI: A special MCOCA court sentenced four men to life imprisonment for murdering a cable operator in 2012. The court also imposed a Rs 20,000 fine on each of them. Kailash alias Mahesh Ashok Panchal (33), Suresh Deshvani (29), Arvind Salvi (25), Ganesh Baliram Desai (27) will face another two years of simple imprisonment if they default on the penalty.
Cable operator and social worker, Sandeep Ghag, was stabbed to death by the four on March 14, 2012 in Borivli. Ghag, who had a criminal record, had an existing rivalry Panchal. Panchal had refused to help Ghag financially. The police had externed Ghag from city limits as he had multiple cases registered against him. They said he was involved in illegally "protecting" properties in Saibaba Nagar, Borivli.
