Indian stock market opened on a bearish note and continued to trade on the downside during Thursday. Sensex has shed so far over 300 pts and Nifty 50 has dived by over 55 pts in early trade. At around 09.25 AM, Sensex is trading at 43,532.51 down 61.16 points or 0.14% and Nifty was performing at 12,734 below 15.15 points or 0.12%.
At around 09.19 AM, the 30-scrip index was down 146.32 points or 0.34% at 43447.35, and the 50-scrip was lower by 34.50 points or 0.27% at 12714.70.
Sensex has touched the day's low of 43,290.63 and Nifty has earmarked intraday low of 12,692.
Banking and financial stocks were major laggards of the current trading session.
BSE Bankex was trading at 33,114.55 down 1.09%, while BSE Finance was performing at 6,408.37 lower by 0.98%.
On Sensex, the top underperforming stocks were -
HDFC, IndusInd Bank and
SBI plunging by 2% each. Also, Kotak Bank, Tata Steel and Bajaj Finance recorded between 1-1.5% drop.
Meanwhile, the top-performing stocks on Sensex were - M&M (+2.2%), followed by
Infosys (+1.5%). Stocks like Tech Mahindra,
HCL Tech and Sun Pharma were also among top gainers surging by near 1% each.
BSE Midcap and BSE SmallCap have surged marginally.
Stocks that will remain in focus today are - Aurobindo Pharma, SpiceJet, aviation stocks, Coal India, Tata Steel, banking stocks, Apollo Hospitals and NHPC among others.
Companies that will announce their September 2020 (Q2FY21) quarter result today will also be in focus. These companies are - Eicher Motors, Engineers India, Grasim Industries, HUDCO, Infibeam Avenues, IRCTC, IRB Infrastructure Developers, Jubilant FoodWorks, Aksh Optifibre, Alok Industries, Apollo Micro Systems, Aarey Drugs, Arvind Fashions, Avanti Feeds, Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, Bharat Dynamics, BF Utilities, Clariant Chemicals, Cochin Shipyard, Dishman Carbogen Amcis, Fortis Healthcare, Gujarat Pipavav Port, HCC, HEG, KNR Constructions, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Mahanagar Gas, Natco Pharma, Page Industries, PFC, Punjab & Sind Bank and Sun TV Network.
Investors are eying additional financial stimulus package before Diwali season. It is being known that the government may announce a stimulus package of Rs20 lakh cr.
The domestic equities tracked Asian stock markets movement which was broadly in a volatile session as optimism over coronavirus vaccine flavours out.
China's Shanghai SE Composite Index was down 0.2%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng dived 0.335. Also, Australia ASX All Ordinaries and Taiwan TSEC 50 Index has dipped by 0.59% and 0.18% respectively. However, Japan's Nikkei 225 remains broadly in the green.
