Why no sense of urgency for hundreds of Kashmiris; Mehbooba on Arnab's bail

Srinagar, Nov 12 (UNI) Agreeing with Supreme Court on right to liberty in Republic network Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami case, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has questioned why no sense of urgency was shown for hundreds of Kashmiris and journalists languishing in jails on baseless charges.

Forget court ruling they did not even get a hearing, said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who herself was released from detention after 14 months from August 5, 2019 when centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A besides divided the Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs).

Taking to micro blogging site twitter Mehbooba said “Agree with SCs outrage on right to liberty. But sadly this outrage has been selective as there are hundreds of Kashmiris & journalists languishing in jails on baseless charges. Forget court ruling they didn’t even get a hearing. Why no sense of urgency for their liberty?”

Arnab Goswami was arrested by police in Mumbai on November 4 in an abetment to suicide case. However, SC granted him bail on Wednesday after Mumbai High Court denied it.

Mehbooba along with two former CMs Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah besides hundreds of former ministers, legislators and leaders of different mainstream political parties and separatist organisations were arrested on August 5, last year. Sister of Omar and daughter of Mehbooba later challenged their detention in Supreme Court without getting any bail. However, the detained leaders were released after UT administration withdraw their detention charges.

Meanwhile, Mehbooba in another tweet congratulated Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi for giving tough fight in Bihar polls.

She tweeted "Congratulations @yadavtejashwi for setting the agenda on real issues in Bihar polls as opposed to divisive politics. Despite being a one man army you put up a tough fight. Im sure you’ve made Laloo ji proud & there will be victories ahead inshallah."
