BJP leaders booked for large gathering in Ganeshpeth

NAGPUR: Hordes of BJP leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Vikas Mahatme, member of legislative council (MLC) and city party chief Pravin Datka, were booked on Wednesday for unlawful large gathering while celebrating their party's performance post Bihar's assembly election result.
BJP-led NDA crossed the majority mark in a tensed electoral drama in Bihar overthrowing the verdicts of exit poll.
Mahatme, Datke, MLAs Vikas Kumbhare and Krushna Khopde, along with their 40-45 supporters, had assembled at their city office at Ganeshpeth ignoring the legal orders against such large gatherings by the state government due to the pandemic in view.
Corporators like Bunty Kukde, also the chairperson of the civic body's transport committee, Pramod Chikle, along with several office bearers of Bharatiya Junta Yuva Morcha, too were present at the merry-making venue.
Ganeshpeth police have invoked section 135 of Bombay Police Act for the gathering along with the provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005 under which state had prohibited such large assembly of people.
