AFL trade period deadline day: Higgins to become a Saint, Cameron deal edges closer

Summary

  • Ben Brown and Jack Higgins have been traded to Melbourne and St Kilda respectively. Melbourne and the Swans have completed a pick swap.
  • There has been good progress on the trade to get Jeremy Cameron from the Giants to Geelong. It is expected a deal will be done before deadline. Crucially, the Cats have agreed to part with pick 13 and 15 in return for Cameron.
  • AFL club lists sizes will be cut to a minimum of 37 and a maximum of 44 players - including all rookies – next year. The salary cap is also close to being finalised for next year with a cut of "about 10 per cent" to apply.
  • The AFL have reduced the requirement that clubs take three selections at the draft to just one.
