Surrender of ULFA bomb expert Drishti Rajkhowa, others blow to the outfit

Guwahati, Nov 12 (UNI) ULFA (I) 'deputy c-c-in-c' Drishti Rajkhowa, who along with four
other cadres, had surrendered before security forces yesterday near Indo-Bangladesh
border in Meghalaya, was brought to Assam today.
The surrendered militants are being kept at the Army's Red Horns Division headquarter
at Rangiya, near Guwahati.
Addressing a press conference at Rangiya, the GOC of Red Horns Division, Maj. Gen.
Deepak Mehra said the surrender is a major blow to the outfit.
He congratulated the security agencies for working successfully together to bring the
hard-core militants overground.
IGP (Special Branch), Assam Police, Hiren Nath, also present on the occasion, said
the surrender is a major boost to the peace initiatives in the state.
The top ULFA (I) leader's surrender was the outcome of 'Operation Malakand' carries
out by multiple agencies of the army and police forces of Assam and Meghalaya.
Besides Drishti Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha, 'Corporal' Vedanta, Yasin Asom, Rop
Jyoti Asom and Mithun Asom, also laid down arms.
Rajkhowa, a known explosive expert, was 'Deputy Commander-in-Chief' of United
Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) and was an active member of the terrorist
outfit since last 30 years.
Since last many years, efforts were being launched by various intelligence and security
agencies of Unified Command for the neutralization of Rajkhowa.
