A 29-year-old man has been arrested from the outskirts of Kolkata for duping a doctor who wanted to sell his bike using a stolen sim card from a rickshaw puller.

Police also said the phone used by the accused, identified as Gouranga Kirtania, to call the doctor was also stolen, the Hindustan Times reported.

The rickshaw puller from whom the sim card was stolen stays in Dum Dum. Interrogation of the rickshaw puller revealed that Kirtania has hired him a few days back and stole the sim card on the pretext of making a call from the rickshaw puller's phone.

The doctor whose bike was stolen had put out an advertisement looking for buyers for his bike.

He received a call from the accused who showed interest in buying the bike. The duo met on October 2 and the accused fled with the two-wheeler on the pretext of taking it for a test drive.

After releasing that he was duped, the doctor filed a complaint with Kolkata Police.
