India says minorities space to practice their religion shrink continuously in Pakistan

New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) India on Thursday attacked Pakistan over state of condition of minorities and said that the space for minorities to practice their religion shrank continuously.

Four days ago, the gunmen shot and killed an 82-year-old Ahmadi man on the outskirts of Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar. It was the fourth-such apparently targeted killing of a member of the minority group in recent months.

“We have seen media reports of an 82-year-old Ahmadi man believed to have been shot and killed by some gunmen, apparently because of his faith, in Peshawar,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in reply to a question during virtual weekly press briefing here.

“This is, unfortunately, a sad reflection of the state of minorities in Pakistan. Over a period of time, we have seen the space for people from the minority community to practice their religion shrink continuously,” the spokesperson said.

He further added that the condition of people from the minority community remain deplorable.

“We have been consistently raising the issue of the safety, security and well-being of minority communities with the Government of Pakistan,” he said.

Ahmadi faith was established on the Indian subcontinent in 19th century by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
