The Union Government has changed the name of the Ministry of Shipping to Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Recently, PM Narendra Modi announced the renaming of the ministry. According to the notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, under the ministry, maritime shipping, teaching and training for maritime trade, administration of lighthouses and lightships, ports, shipping, and shipping will work. This includes the movement of passengers and goods through national waterways.
Apart from these various autonomous bodies like Mumbai, Kolkata, and other port trusts, the Inland Waterways Authority of India, and Shipping Corporation of India will also come under the ministry. On Sunday, on the occasion of the launch of Roe Pax Ferry service between Ghogha and Hazira of Gujrat, Modi had said that the Ministry of Shipping is being expanded and now it will be named Port, Shipping and Waterways Ministry.
