The Central Government has authorized the Director of National Cyber ​​Coordination Center (NCCC) in the Ministry of Information Technology to issue instructions to block online content. According to a gazette notification, the NCCC director will issue a directive to block online content under the provisions of the IT Act and the blocking rules.
According to a senior official, in a notification issued on November 10, the NCCC director has been appointed to replace only the old officer. There has been no increase in their rights. Under the provisions of section 69 of the IT Act, on the basis of the recommendation of a committee, the designated officer can issue an order to block any website.
Under Section 69A it may be directed to stop making any information public which affects the interest of the defense, integrity, and sovereignty of the country or the security of the country and friendly relations with any foreign government.
