The Women’s India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) recently launched in Guwahati its Handloom Council with the aim to restore, preserve and promote the works of indigenous weavers of the state. It also aims at making these artisans stakeholders in the state’s economic growth. A campaign called ‘Hands Behind the Looms’ was also launched.
A discussion on ‘Assam Textile in the Global Arena’ was also organised as part of the event, according to media reports from the state.
