The criminal lawsuit against two-thirds of new MLAs of Bihar Legislative Assembly, ADR reports

Two-thirds of the MLAs who won the Bihar assembly elections are facing criminal cases while 81 percent of the MLAs are millionaires. This claim has been made by the Election Officer Group ADR (Association of Democratic Reforms) after analyzing the affidavit submitted to the Election Office on behalf of the 241 winning candidates on Tuesday.

According to the ADR report, 68% of the victorious MLAs (163 MLAs) have admitted in the affidavit that criminal cases have been filed against them. Of these, 51 percent (123 MLAs) have serious cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, and crimes against women. According to ADR, 58 percent (142 MLAs) of the MLAs who won the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections had declared criminal cases.

Of the important parties, 73 percent of the RJD's 75 winners (54 MLAs), against 64 percent (47 MLAs) of the BJP's 74 winning seats, 47 percent of the JDU's 43 winners (20 MLAs), and the Congress. Of the 19 winners, 84 percent (16 MLAs), 83 percent (10 MLAs) of the 12 winners of CPI-ML, and five victorious MLAs of AIMIM have admitted criminal cases against them.

Serious crimes are also prosecuted by 60 percent (44 MLAs) of RJD, 48 percent (35 MLAs) of BJP, 26 percent (11 MLAs) of JDU, 58 percent (11 MLAs) of Congress, 67 percent (8 MLAs) of CPI Male. And five of AIMIM MLAs are lodged against them.

The number of women decreased, the elderly are more than youth

This time the number of women candidates winning in the elections has come down by one percent over 2015. While 12 percent (28 MLAs) were women in 2015, this time their number is 11 percent (26 MLAs). The elderly also outnumber the younger MLAs. Among the winners, 48 ​​percent (115 MLAs) are between 25 and 50 years old, while the winners between 51 and 80 years of age are 52 percent (126 MLAs). Out of the winning candidates, 34 percent (82 MLAs) have educational qualifications between fifth to 12th standard, while 62 percent (149 MLAs) have described themselves as graduates or above. There are nine winners who are merely literate and one winner is a diploma holder.

BJP has the most millionaire winner

194 MLAs (81%) are millionaires, this time among the winners.

In 2015, only 162 MLAs (67 percent) were on the millionaire list.

65 MLAs (89 percent) are the highest number of millionaires of BJP.

RJD is in second place with 64 MLAs (87 per cent).

38 MLAs (88 percent) are from JDU and 14 MLAs (74 percent) are from Congress.

4.32 crores are the average wealth of the winning MLAs this time.

The average assets of the re-elected MLAs in 2015 was Rs 3.15 crore.

The average wealth of such MLAs has increased by 67 percent to Rs 5.26 crore.
