The BSF and the Sriganganagar police in a joint action last evening arrested three youths by intercepting a car and seized fake currency notes worth Rs 1.35 lakh.

BSF Deputy Inspector General Pushpinder Singh Rathore said today that Satpal Singh (25) of Chak 2-PSD village, Ranjit Singh Raju (34) and his brother Pargat Singh alias Prince (26) of Chak 5-DD village have been held. The fake currencies recovered from them include nine notes of Rs 2,000 and 234 notes of Rs 500. An Alto car owned by Pargat Singh has been impounded.

The BSF and the police laid a naka on the Gharsana-Sakhi road and intercepted a car, search of which resulted in the fake currency seizure. Deepender Singh Shekhawat, Deputy Commandant of BSF’s G-branch, and Inspector Balram Singh played an important role in nabbing the gang.

Preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that Satpal Singh ran an acupressure clinic and Pargat Singh owned a photo studio in Gharsana. Due to Covid lockdown, their business nosedived. The duo learnt how to make fake currency from YouTube. Pargat also involved his brother Ranjit Singh in preparing and marketing fake currency. In the photo studio they allegedly have been preparing fake currency by using a scanner and computer. The equipment has been confiscated from the photo studio.
