Journalist run over in Assam

Guwahati, Nov 12 (UNI) A journalist of a local TV channel, Parag Bhuyan, succumbed this morning to injuries sustained in a road accident yesterday near his residence in Kakopathar in Tinsukia district of Assam, with questions being raised on the mishap.
Bhuyan, who worked for 'Pratidin Time' news channel, had stepped out of his house in the evening to buy medicines when he was run over by a vehicle.
He was rushed to a private hospital in Dibrugarh, where he died today.
He was the vice-president of Tinsukia Press Club and the younger brother of former minister Jagadish Bhuyan, who is also the convenor of the new political party formed by All Assam Students Union.
Bhuyan was involved in various investigative reporting and questions have been raised on the accident.
Meanwhile, a green tea leaf carrying vehicle was identified with help of local witnesses and CCTV footage of the Kakopathar police station, which is situated close to the accident site, as causing the mishap.
The vehicle was seized from Namsai in bordering Arunachal Pradesh this morning along with its driver and helper and brought them to Namsai police station.
They have admitted of committing the accident and fleeing the spot, fearing crowd fury.
The driver and the helper were arrested in connection with the case and investigation has started, a police statement said.
