GREATER NOIDA: Three new substations will come up in Greater Noida in view of the proposed increase in electricity demand of 100 MW from the current 450 MW in the city from next year, officials said. While two substations of 220KV capacity are expected to come up in Amarpur and Jalpura, land for the third of 400KV capacity is yet to be decided.
The demand for the substations has risen with the Greater Noida Authority and the power department anticipating a population growth from the current 8-10 lakh to 25 lakh in the next decade in Greater Noida, especially with the upcoming Jewar airport driving growth and investment opportunities in the region, as per the mobility plan by consulting agency RITES.
“There is a plan for three new substations for Greater Noida as there is an expected demand for the future. We have requested land from the Greater Noida Authority and the process of land allotment is underway. The three substations will be of 220KV capacity, but one of them may be enhanced to 400KV capacity depending on the requirement during its construction,” said Puneet Gupta, superintending engineer of Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL).
Together, the three substations are expected to improve the power supply of Greater Noida, especially in sectors 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and Ecotech 1.
While the power supply of Greater Noida is currently provided from 132KV substation at Surajpur and 220KV substation at RC Greens, this year, the peak demand for the city had reached 450MW. Officials from the power department maintain an increase of 100 MW is expected by next year with the growing population.
“Hence the requirement for the three new substations for the city. While 220KV substation is expected to be built in about 70 crore, the 400 KV substation is usually constructed in Rs 200 crore, depending on the number of transformers and bases required for it,” said Gupta.
“Primary planning is already underway. Once land is finalised, we will send a study report to the planning wing of the UPPTCL, which is going to give the requisite estimates. After that, sanction for the substations will come from Lucknow. All this will begin from this month itself, while the next 5-6 months will be taken for finalising the whole process,” he added.
Meanwhile, Narendra Bhooshan GNIDA CEO told TOI that land has already been finalised for two substations. “One is in Amarpur while another land will be in Jalpura. For the third substation, we are still in the process of finalising the land. These substations are required to increase the load capacity of Greater Noida as our population is growing at a speed faster than normal growth rate,” he said.
