Close shave for 60 as bus hits guardrail in Kolkata

The accident spot in north Dum Dum
KOLKATA: At least 15 people were seriously injured on Wednesday morning after a bus heading towards Madhyamgram from Digha crashed through a bus stand shed and hit a guardrail off the airport-bound flank of the Belgharia Expressway in north Dum Dum. It stopped short of falling nearly 30 feet below. Twenty people escaped with minor injuries.
All 60 passengers in the bus had a narrow escape as the front portion of the bus kept hanging in the air. The locals rushed to the spot and evacuated all passengers from the bus.
The injured were rushed to North Dum Dum Municipal Hospital. After being informed, a police team from Nimta PS came to the spot and moved the bus with the help of a crane. The accident took place around 6.40am while the bus carrying the tourists was on it's way to Madhyamgram.
Cops suspect the driver of the bus might have fallen asleep. The panic-stricken passengers heaved a sigh of relief after getting off the bus.
