So far, India has recorded 86,83,916 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,28,121 deaths. A total of 80,66,501 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far. There are 4,89,294 active cases in the country as of date, which comprises 5.63 percent of the total caseload, the data stated. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 92.89 percent. 'Unlock 6.0' is underway.     Coronavirus in US LIVE Updates | Anthony Fauci says vaccine 'cavalry' is en route but urges vigilance

    US government scientist Anthony Fauci said Thursday the coronavirus vaccine "cavalry" is coming but urged the public not to let down its guard, and called for a stronger WHO to ward off future pandemics.

    Fauci, a world-leading expert on infectious diseases who has been at serious odds with President Donald Trump over Covid-19, said that after Pfizer's vaccine, another is "literally on the threshold of being announced". 

    Moderna, which is co-developing its vaccine candidate with the US National Institutes of Health, says it is close to reaching a threshold in trials to apply for an emergency use authorisation from US regulators.

    "The cavalry is coming, but don't put your weapons down," Fauci said by video-link to the Chatham House international affairs think-tank in London.

    The Tamil Nadu government on November 12 announced that schools will not reopen for classes 9 to 12 in the state from November 16. Postponing the reopening of schools until a further date, the Tamil Nadu government said:

    “The order on reopening schools from November 16 for classes 9 to 12 is cancelled. An announcement on reopening schools will be made later based on the situation," the order said.

    Coronavirus vaccine LIVE Updates | WHO says in talks with Russian institute on Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine

    The World Health Organization (WHO) is in discussions with the Russian institute that developed the Sputnik V candidate vaccine against COVID-19 over its potential application for emergency use listing, the U.N. agency said today. 

    In a statement to news agency Reuters, the WHO said: "We look forward to receiving the data for their Sputnik V candidate vaccine. If a product submitted for assessment is found to meet the criteria for listing, WHO will publish the results widely."

    By granting the vaccine emergency use listing, the WHO would effectively be recommending its use to member states.

    Coronavirus in Bangladesh LIVE Updates | Bangladesh extends school shutdown over second COVID-19 wave

    Bangladesh is extending its closure of all schools and other educational institutions until Dec. 19 amid fears of a second wave of coronavirus infections during the winter, the education ministry said on Thursday.

    Experts say Bangladesh, with patchy healthcare facilities, could face another surge in infections, having so far confirmed 427,198 cases and 6,140 deaths from COVID-19.

    The government closed all schools and other educational institutions in the country on March 17. The closure has since been extended several times, with the last order stating that schools would remain shut until at least November 15.

    Coronavirus in Maharashtra LIVE Updates | Maharashtra reports 4,496 new COVID-19 cases, 7,809 recoveries and 122 deaths today. Total number of positive cases in state rises to 17,36,329, including 84,627 active cases, 16,05,064 recoveries and 45,682 deaths. Recovery rate is 92.44 percent.
