15,000 MC ex-staffers await pension

Chandigarh, November 11

As many as 15,000 pensioners of the local Municipal Corporation (MC) are staring at dark Diwali as they have not received this month’s pension.

It is for the first time in the MC’s history that former employees did not get their pension on the scheduled date. As the MC shifted clerks to its recently opened petrol station, pension-related formalities could not be completed.

“We have been visiting the MC office for last few days, but in a vain. It’s for the first time that we will get late pension. Pensioners fear that they will have to celebrate dark Diwali,” rued a pensioner preferring anonymity. An official concerned of the MC said, “We got two clerks on November 6 and released pension today. Hopefully, pensioners will get their dues tomorrow.” — TNS
