Telangana HC directs state govt to ban crackers

Hyderabad, Nov 12 (UNI) The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to ban crackers for the ensuing Deepavali.

The two-judge panel consisting of Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B.Vijayasena Reddy in its order asked the state government to issue directions for the closure of cracker shops and to book cases against the violators.

The court also asked the government to create awareness among the people about the
ban on crackers through the media.

The court was dealing with a writ petition filed by practicing lawyer Indra Prakash who appeared in the court as a party in person. He complained that the pollution due to crackers would pose a problem to patients suffering from COVID-19.

It may be mentioned that some states had already banned sale and use of crackers.
