US hits new all-time high in daily COVID-19 cases
- The United States has reported more than 10.3 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 240,800 deaths caused by the disease, Johns Hopkins University data showed on Wednesday.
- The third wave of COVID-19 infections is underway in the United States as winter approaches.
- Numerous US states are facing strained resources at medical facilities, such as shortages of medical personnel and hospital beds, forcing additional lockdowns in the communities considered hotspots.
Class 10, 12 students in West Bengal will not have pre-final tests: Mamata Banerjee
- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that students appearing for the Class X and Class XII exams will not be required to sit for their pre-final tests at the school level.
- "Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic situation, the State Education Department has decided that students currently studying in classes 10th and 12th will not have their pre-final tests," she said.
PM Modi, along with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc will co-chair the 17th ASEAN-India Summit today.
The leaders of all ten ASEAN Member States will participate in the Summit that will be held online.

WHO chief Tedros thanks PM Modi for strong commitment to Covid vaccine
- "I thanked Prime Minister @narendramodi for his strong commitment to COVAX and making #COVID19 vaccines a global public good. The pandemic is an unprecedented challenge for the world, and we agreed to work shoulder to shoulder to end it. #ACTtogether," World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in tweet.
- Tedros said he had a "very productive" telephone call with PM Modi during which both of them talked about ways to "strengthen our collaboration and advance access to knowledge, research and training in traditional medicine globally".
IMA condemns Haryana's decision to raise MBBS fees in medical colleges to Rs 10 per year
- Indian Medical Association (IMA) president Dr Rajan Sharma has criticised the decision by the Haryana government to raise the fees of government medical colleges in the State.
- The fees in public medical colleges has been raised to Rs 10 lakh per year from around Rs 50,000 per year. With this, a student seeking admission in an MBBS course will have to pay Rs 40 lakh for the four-year course.
EU says looking forward to better ties with US under Biden
- The European Union on Wednesday said it looked forward to better relations with the United States under the leadership of President-elect Joe Biden, and expressed hope the presidential transition will not be “bumpy."
- EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell warmly congratulated “Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for their historic victory" and said the 27-nation bloc looked forward to better relations than under President Donald Trump.
Travelers to Spain must provide negative COVID-19 test
- The Spanish Health Ministry said that starting Nov. 23, travelers to Spain will be required to submit a negative test result from within 72 hours prior to their planned departure. They will be able to do so via the internet or with a document before boarding a plane.
- The proof of being virus-free before traveling will come on top of the temperature checks performed on arriving passengers at Spain's airports. The measure will apply to countries designated as “high risk.”
Reached consensus over demands with Rajasthan govt: Gurjar leader
- The Gurjar Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti has been demanding that the state government get the Gurjar reservation included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, fill the backlog of vacancies and give the benefit of five per cent quota to the Most Backward Classes (MBCs) in the pending recruitment process.
- "A consensus has been reached over the demands with the state government. We have trust that the government will work on the agreement. However, we will take a decision on the calling off of the agitation at the protest site," Gurjar leader Vijay Bainsla said after the meeting.
- Gurjars had blocked the Hindaun-Bayana road and the Delhi-Mumbai rail route.
