NHPC Ltd, India’s public sector hydroelectricity generation company, reported 5.5% lower Sep-20 quarter top line sales revenues at Rs2,899.56cr. The operations had been impacted in a small way during the Jun-20 quarter. However, at the behest of the government, the hydro power generator gave a discount of Rs185cr to distribution companies or DISCOMs. This amount has been written off as an exceptional item in the Jun-20 quarter.
For the Sep-20 quarter, the operating profits were lower by 3.55% at Rs1,486.73cr on a yoy basis. NHPC managed to report OPM of 51.27% in the Sep-20 quarter compared to 50.23% in the Sep-19 quarter due to a lower base of sales.
Net profits also fell by 10.79% on a yoy basis at Rs1300.40cr. As a result the PAT margins stood lower at 44.85% in Sep-20 quarter compared to the Sep-19 quarter PAT margin of 47.51%. This was largely on account of higher tax burden in Sep-20 quarter.
