Bengaluru campus of MAHE to function from academic year 2022-23
Representational Image. MANIPAL: Bengaluru campus of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) will start functioning from its new 80-acre campus at Yelahanka from the academic year 2022-23. The various off campus units of MAHE spread across the state capital will be centralised on this new campus including the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology that MAHE acquired recently, Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, MAHE said.
Interacting with national media virtually to unveil MAHEs roadmap for National Education Policy 2020, Dr Ballal said ‘bhoomi pooja’ for the new campus was done in October. “We expect the new campus to be operational in the next 18 to 24 months,” he said. The new campus will have a centre for regenerative medicine, the Srishti Manipal Institute. A law and a new engineering college too will be on the new campus, Dr Ballal said.
Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor, MAHE said the erstwhile Manipal University will consolidate all its institutions including centres of excellence including management and executive education that are presently functioning from leased, rented premises in Bengaluru to its own campus. Work on the new campus is on and we expect this to be fully functional from the academic year 2022-23 with the new aforementioned additions, he said.
Shedding light on the Srishti deal, Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, MAHE said all students admitted to this premier institute for design from the current academic year will be on the rolls of MAHE and get a degree from MAHE when they graduate. Students admitted in the previous academic years will get their degrees from Bengaluru City University. “Srishti is a constituent Institution of MAHE and all its staff are now on our rolls,” he said.
Clarifying further, Dr Ballal said, “MAHE can offer only those courses that are available on its branch campus at its off campus. Since MAHE is already offering architecture and design courses at Manipal Institute of Technology, Srishti was a value addition to MAHEs education portfolio,” he said. MAHE has approved the current year’s academic programme at Srishti after the entire merger process of the institute was completed, Dr Venkatesh added.
