Govt Class-I officer arrested for graft in Navi Mumbai

Thane, Nov 11 (UNI) A class-I government officer from CBD-Belapur of Navi Mumbai at the office of the Audit office has been on Wednesday arrested by the Thane ACB for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant the ACB officials said.
Shivraj Bendre PI of the Navi Mumbai Unit of the ACB said that offenses under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the arrested accused Deepak Kate, the Assistant Director, of the local funds' Audit office at CBD Belapur.
The officer accepted a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant, when he was caught red, handed at his office the ACB official said.
He said that the complainant worked with the Panchayat Samiti office at Khandala and he wanted the objections raised in two earlier audit reports by the audit team for the period 2018-19 and 2012-13. For the same, the officer had made a demand for a combined amount of Rs. 15.000.
After due negotiations, the audit officer agreed to accept a sum of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant.
The aggrieved complainant lodged a complaint with the Navi Mumbai unit of the ACB officials of which on Wednesday laid a trap at the office of the officer and caught him accepting the sum of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant the ACB officer said.
