This year, it is not the same as before… Diwali is not what it used to be but the spirits remain high. So what if there won’t to be grand parties… celebrations are a must, even if from a safe distance. It’s all about family time and valuing the little things that matter! In their jazziest outfits, this is how the Punjabi stars are going to celebrate the day.

Grandma here I come!

Wamiqa Gabbi

My grandmother was Covid positive and she was hospitalised. She was really upset and she asked me to be home for Diwali. So, I will wrap up work and go home. I am happy that I will be celebrating Diwali with her. It will be with family and some close friends. No crackers, just some healthy food, warm water and plenty of conversation.

Spiritually speaking

Mandy Takhar

I will be going to the Golden Temple with a few friends as my family is back in the UK. Having said that, my friends are my family here, so Diwali is always with family in one way or the other. I will wear a mask when I go to the Harmandir Sahib and of course, no fireworks.

Home celebration

This Diwali will be very simple. It would be about dressing up, doing pooja, lighting diyas and lights, making rangoli, having mouth-watering delicacies and enjoying the presence of loved ones. I love this festival. However, with the strict social-distancing laws imposed due to the pandemic, Diwali 2020 will be a little different. It’s going to be just family. No friends, no parties, no going out.

Away from home

Gurleen Chopra

I am in Mumbai and won’t be able to go back to Chandigarh for Diwali. One of my friends will join me and the plan is to go to a gurdwara, light some candles there and at home, make a rangoli and prepare a meal. I’ll make a video for my YouTube channel and share the day with everyone virtually.

Keep it clean

Harbhajan Mann

I will be celebrating this Diwali at home with my family. It’s going to be a small celebration with just the immediate family. We like to celebrate these special occasions together and create new memories. We will be staying away from firecrackers and urge everyone to celebrate in a safe and clean manner as well.

Getting real

Gurpreet Ghuggi

Nothing much really. The gloom of Covid-19 has cast a shadow on the charm of Diwali. But there is a lesson in these times. We’ve seen that if we do not pollute, then the environment becomes so beautiful. Also, all these years, Diwali had turned into a mere formality than a festival. But this time, it is about being with family and being grateful for what we have.

Green message

Jobanpreet Singh

This time Diwali happens to be on my birthday, so I am planning to plant 50 saplings. The day would be about going to a gurdwara for prayers and gratitude. Rest, some fun with family.
